This issue of Outlook is all about bite-sized advice from our fellow members. Get words of wisdom on the following topics: the mentor/mentee relationship, navigating conflicting health information, designing better behavior change interventions, and high-impact research directions in the areas of pain, spirituality and health, and psychosocial stress and cardiovascular risk, as well as how to communicate your science to the public.
In the Climate Change and Health Corner, our feature article provides a closer look on how climate change and violence against women and girls are linked. You’ll also notice a special link to NIH funding opportunities in climate change and health. We will continue to share valuable resources as they arise to advance research in this critical area.
SBM President Dr. Ellen Beckjord’s message was truly scintillating especially these words “If you show up for SBM, SBM will show up for you.” Did you know SBM has a section just for volunteer and leadership opportunities? Become involved at SBM in all capacities from guiding the organizing, shaping the science, being a mentor, building community, and communicating science. Play a key role in growing and sustaining SBM’s vibrant community and take part in moving the needle in behavioral medicine.
Finally, SBM’s Membership Council is seeking applicants for editor of the society’s Outlook member newsletter. Outlook is published online quarterly and provides updates about SBM activities, policies, and other issues affecting the behavioral medicine community. This is a great opportunity to become more involved with SBM’s leadership team.
This experience has been so rewarding especially reading and editing a variety of stimulating topic areas from our SIGs and shaping the content of Outlook. In addition, you get to see SBM leadership in action by networking with SBM leaders who connect year-round. The best part is getting exclusive monthly updates on SBM activities. If you are interested in learning more about the position, please reach out to me at linda.trinh@utoronto.ca
Applications for the new Outlook Editor is due by October 30, 2024. Send materials to SBM’s Communication Manager Emily Takerian at etakerian@sbm.org
Happy Autumn!
