Spring 2024

Editor's Note

I’m excited to connect with all of you at the conference this week! In this issue, we have articles on getting the most out of conferences from seasoned conference attendees including presentation prep, networking, and energy management. Check out the Climate Change and Health corner on how you can be rewarded and help the environment at this year’s conference.

If you’re looking for a great way to network and be active at the same time, consider joining the Stride for Science Run/Walk on Thursday, March 14 at 6:15 pm. I’ll be there on course as a volunteer pacer completing the route with all of you.

As a former Physical Activity SIG chair, we were part of the inaugural Stride for Science Run/Walk in 2022 and it’s phenomenal to see this become an annual conference tradition. It keeps getting better thanks to the outstanding efforts of the current leadership team in the Physical Activity SIG and SBM.

What is this run/walk all about? It’s all about meeting new friends, reconnecting with colleagues, and squeezing in a 5K workout right before your dinner plans. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to attend. The best part is that it benefits SBM’s Proven Science—Better Health Giving Campaign with 100% proceeds supporting SBM’s Science Communication Fund which helps scientists communicate their work to the public using resources like our Sci Comm Toolkit. Start creating those physical activity action plans and schedule a workout for Thursday!

There will be a return shuttle service from the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown to Fairmount Park (10 minutes). It’s not too late to sign up! You can do it on-site or register here: https://www.sbm.org/support-sbm/2024-stride-for-science-runwalk

Have a wonderful and active conference!
