Outlook: Newsletter of the Society of Behavorial Medicine

Spring 2025

Editor's Note

Linda Trinh, PhD, FSBM; Editor, Outlook

It’s been an absolute pleasure serving you as the Editor-in-Chief of Outlook for the past 3 years. As my term ends, I would like to thank all the SIGs, councils, committees, and SBM members for their contributions to Outlook. It is because of these contributions that we were able to have such diverse and meaningful content in every issue focused on professional development, alternative career paths, career development and mentorship, student/trainee perspectives, new research directions, and of course the inaugural climate change and health corner.

I am very appreciative of the supportive team that I get to work alongside to create Outlook including current and past Communications Managers, Emily Takerian and Sarah Gilbertson, as well as Andrew Schmidt (Senior Program Manager) and Lindsay Bullock (Executive Director). Lastly, it has been such a wonderful journey working with the vision of current and past SBM Presidents over my term, Dr. Ellen Beckjord (current), Dr. Bernard Fuemmeler (2023-2024), and Dr. Margaret Schneider (2022-2023).

I am excited to see you all of you next week in San Francisco. Check out the article that Dr. Carina Nigg, myself, and Dr. James Sallis co-authored on how SBM can be a leader in advancing a culture of active conferences. We have put together a variety of activity options so we can stay active during conferences. We want members to stay energized with movement!

Mark your calendars for SBM's Stride for Science Field Day Frenzy. Join us on Thursday, March 27 from 6-7:30 p.m. for fitness classes, competition, and fun movement activities. Register here with 100% of proceeds benefitting SBM's Science Communication Fund: https://www.sbm.org/support-sbm/stride-for-science-5k/2025

I will be there, and I hope to see all of you too!

Finally, please join me in welcoming Dr. Lisa Cadmus-Bertram (Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison Department of Kinesiology) who will be the new incoming Outlook Editor. Dr. Cadmus-Bertram is a longstanding SBM member since 2008. She was the former SIG chair of the Behavioral Informatics and Technology (BIT) SIG and the Population Health Sciences (PHS) SIG. She served as a Health Ambassador for rural health, and is currently part of the Public Education Committee. The Outlook will be in exemplary hands with Dr. Cadmus-Bertram as the Editor-in-Chief. She will be taking on this role after the 2025 Annual Meeting and I am thrilled for what the upcoming Summer 2025 issue has to offer.

I will continue to stay engaged with SBM in my next role as Publications Council Chair. In SBM president Dr. Ellen Beckjord’s words, ‘It’s never been easier to make moves and create with this vital community,’ and I hope you will start your volunteer journey with SBM to foster meaningful change in the field of behavioral medicine.

See you all at the conference!
